weapons:
Weapons are divided in four groups:
  • standard shot (unlimited ammo - weak) - upgradeable
  • bounce shot (bounces off walls (limited ammo - mediocre) - upgradeable
  • mines (limited ammo - placed on ground or maybe some other ideas like sensor barriers) - upgradeable
  • special weapon (limited ammo) - upgradeable
All the weapons can have different looks and styles for the three main characters, but in the end they have to work in the same way. So for example, the bounce shot for the guy can be a blue energy ball, but for the girl it's a blue laser (very much like the blue laser in R-Type), that bounces of the wall.
Nevertheless, it's important, that the weapons of the individual groups have the same color scheme for all three characters. So standard shot is allways in yellow colors, bounce shot always in blue, mines in red and special in green.

All weapons, including the standard shot, can be upgraded by special items (upgrade chips), that can be found in the level or be droped by certain enemies and bosses. There are three upgrade steps for the weapons:
  • standard shot --> double shot (parallel) --> triple spread shot ---> 5 way spread shot
  • bounce shot --> double the shots (more projectiles possible) --> double the bounces (can bounce 3 times) --> more power
  • mines --> 2 additional mines can be placed --> explosion radius gets bigger --> 2 additional mines can be placed, radius gets bigger
  • special weapon --> has to be determined

Example for a mine, the player can drop.
It will blink and explode after a given time.

For the upgrades the player needs to find a increasing ammount of upgrade chips:
  • first upgrade = 5 upgrade chips (balance value)
  • second upgrade = 10 additional upgrade chips (balance value)
  • third upgrade = 20 additional upgrade chips (balance value)
That means the player needs to find 35 upgrade chips for each weapon. Maybe the ammount of needed upgrade chips differs from weapon to weapon (to make it harder to upgrade the special weapon, for instance).

Maybe I'll get some better ideas for that. I really liked the weapon mechanics of Silent Bomber. It would be nice to incorporate the stylus and stylus-moves on the touchscreen for the weapons a lot more. Think about the drawing-shapes for the boomerang in Zelda. Some ideas will follow soon...
Of course there are items for ammunition and health and so on. They are hidden in destroyable crates or other objects.
